Overview

These wines are fruit driven, immediately approachable and make for soft, easy and uncomplicated drinking. These everyday wines offer fantastic value for money and over-deliver on quality. Most of the wines within the Element range come from 50 yr old vines grown in WA's Swan Valley.

Immediately after harvest the fruit was destemmed and crushed to 20 tonne static fermenters. Pumpovers were used for extraction and cap management during the fermentation which took place using a selected yeast strain. After fermentation the wine was drained, skins pressed with the pressings going back in with the free-run wine. The wine was then inoculated with a known MLF strain. Post this fermentation the wine was aged on older French oak before blending and bottling.

Expert Reviews

Sweet berry flavour meets creamy vanilla and a strong hit of spearmint. It's mid-weight but lively, and certainly attractively scented. You wouldn't say though that it has a lot of finish.

Rated 87 by James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion. (Mar/2015)

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOUR:Ruby red.

NOSE:Very much a Shiraz dominant wine with rich and ripe blackberry fruit with spicy undertones of anise and nutmeg.

PALATE:Medium bodied with light, smooth tannins. Loads of blackberry and spice on the palate. This wine style is all about the purity of the fruit, not the oak. A wine to enjoy within the next few years.

Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition

"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”

Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
