Expert Reviews

A real bitsa blend – Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay. Phew. Fruity and grassy with inbuilt complexity from the different grapes and regions. There’s some spice, citrus and pear – a melange of fruits – but dry and citrussy mainly. A fresh, easy going white with a bit of interest. Rating 89 - Gary Walsh, www.winefront.com.au (28/JUL/2011)

A blend of puppy dogs tails (Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc/Pinot Gris/Riesling/Chardonnay) that should by rights not have the character it has, pleasantly mouthfilling and nicely balanced. Rating 88 - James Halliday, www.winecompanion.com.au (AUG/2011)

"Tilly’s sits at the bottom of the Henschke range but it shouldnt be ignored. Its a fruit salad of semillon, sauvignon, pinot gris, riesling and chardonnay but semillon leads the way with lemony scents, and tropical notes back it up harmoniously. The palate is crisp with pleasantly ripe flavour and a mouth-watering zip of acidity." Rating 4 Stars - Ralph Kyte-Powell, Age (5/JUL/2011)

This great-value-for-money wine has become more aromatic and fragrant over the years. Its now unoaked with the mix of Eden Valley semillon, sauvignon blanc, riesling and chardonnay, complemented by the Barossa pinot gris. A delightful current drinking wine for all seasons. Rating 89 - Ray Jordan, West Australian (MAR/2011)

Wine Background

This attractive fragrant blend is named as a tribute to great-aunt Ottilie Mathilde ‘Tilly’ Henschke, one of the remarkable pioneering women from the era where daily life saw them work the land, grow their own produce and raise a large family; a far cry from the ease of today.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Henschke is one of the longest established family names in the Barossa and the Australian wine industry. Johann Christian Henschke first planted vines in Keyneton in 1861, producing his first commercial vintage in 1868.

The tradition of quality winemaking has passed down through the generations – today seeing Stephen Henschke and his wife, Prue, as winemaker and viticulturist respectively.

Awarded "International Red Winemaker of the Year" in 1996 at the London Wine Show, Stephen and Prue were in 2006, awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine's "Winemaker of the Year" in recognition of winemaking excellence in both red and white wines. These Awards recognise the consistent and continuing success of this remarkable couple.

Prue has, for the last 18 years, explored and now employs both organic and biodynamic strategies to maximise the potential for the fruit from these unique vineyards to fully express their individual terroirs.
