Winery Tasting Notes

Grape Varietals

70% Trepat, 30% Garnacha (Grenache).

Bright strawberry pink, with an abundant mid sized bubble, which rises quickly in the glass, and forms a good crown at the top of the glass.

The nose is wonderfully fruity, as a result of the low fermentation temperatures between 15 and 17°C, which allow most of the primary grape aromas to be retained. There are rich floral and fresh bay leaf aromas from the Garnacha, blending with ripe red fruits, blackberry and strawberry, as well as exotic grenadine, dried figs and dates from Trepat. All these combine with elegant notes of medium term bottle ageing.

The palate is fresh and light, soft and appealing. The red fruits, typical of the Rosado cavas and still wines of the region dominate the palate.

Food Matching

This delicious sparkling is best enjoyed with seafood, asian food, fruit and cheese platters and is perfect for the long, hot summer.

Winemaking Notes

Freixenet produces only methode champenoise sparkling wines. The wine goes through two fermentations with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle. Brut Rosé is then aged for up to 24 months in the 54kms of caves located at the Freixenet winery in Sant Sadurni d’Anoia just south of Barcelona.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Freixenet is undoubtedly the world’s most famous Cava – the Spanish sparkling wine made using the methode champenoise.

In 1915 the name Freixenet first appeared on our Cava and was based on Pedro Ferrer’s nickname, given to him as the youngest son of the owners of La Freixeneda estate. The actual word is Catalan and refers to the ash trees growing on their land.
