Accessible yet still elegant example of cooler climate Pinot Noir. The palate is vibrant with a determined structure driving it along. There is some lovely fresh raspberry with blackberries and satsuma plum and a hint of earthy liquorice starting to infiltrate the mid-palate. There is a lot of fruit packed into this wine which will reveal increasing complexity with bottle maturation.
- VIC - Mornington Peninsula
"Light, clear red; a fragrant strawberry-accented bouquet leads into a fine, elegant palate with strawberries, wild and cultivated, to the fore, then a juicy finish. The wine benefits from the low level of tannins because the fruit is so delicate and pure. Drink sooner than later."
Rating 94 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (AUG/2012)
"The Stonier vineyards are consistent sources of high-quality Mornington Peninsula pinot noir. This has a pretty floral overtone to strawberry shortcake, spice and briary aromas. A mouthful shows juicy intensity, seamless silky texture and long flavour, finely framed in light tannins. "
Rating 4.5 Stars - Ralph Kyte-Powell, Age (29/MAY/2012)
"More than 40 batches of fruit from 15 vineyards created this classic Mornington Peninsula pinot noir. Aromas of violets and rhubarb leap from the glass with layers of sweet berry fruit complemented by fine tannin structure in the mouth."
Daily Telegraph (14/APR/2012)
"... The latest pinot, sourced from 15 vineyards all the fruit hand harvested displays the delicate, refined Stonier style: pale to medium colour; aroma and flavour show red-berry fruit with a savoury pinot seam, backed by fine, silky tannins."
4 Stars - Chris Shanahan, Canberra Times (14/MAR/2012)
"A particularly approachable Stonier Pinot in a juicy, fruity style of stewed plums, red cherries and strawberries, layered with notes of cinnamon on a long finish."
Rating 92 - Tyson Stelzer, WBM (NOV/2011)
"A simpler approach with the look and feel of the packaging marries well with the sleek fruit from the 2010 vintage producing a touch lighter, yet more rounded and juicier Pinot Noir in style with trademark cherry/plum flavours predominating. Soft and supple, this still has some nice earthy nuance and spice that fleshes out given time. I watched this wine open up over 3 nights and was impressed how well it carried over the period which speaks volumes for the quality of the site, the vintage, and the winemaker."
