A classic Australian blend. Beautiful ripe, sweet and juicy dark berry flavours with hints of Shiraz spiciness and Cabernet eucalyptus.

Expert Reviews

"Deep crimson-purple; has an extra touch of class/style unexpected at this price point; red and black fruits, spice, black pepper and a hint of oak all coalesce on the palate. " Rating 90, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011

"The fruit for this wine is largely sourced from the Swan Valley and has attractive bright aromatics with a hint of rose petal, and ripe, sweet intense mulberry and dark-plum flavours, which are rich and concentrated. There's an alluring juiciness and velvety texture." Sunday Times, (15/Aug/2010)

"When you start making large quantities of a wine, often the wine gets a sense of being manufactured. It can lose the clear, genuine quality that small-run wines are so good at. This wine is made in sizeable volume but it somehow manages to keep its fresh, genuine face intact. It tastes of mixed berries with a little mint and dried herbs, and perhaps a nip of vanilla. It’s medium-bodied and soft enough, and drinks very well. " 88 Points - Campbell Mattinson and Gary Walsh, Big Red Wine Book 2010/2011

"The Element series is largely sourced from the Swan Valley and this is an absolute ripper. The 2008 Sandalford Element Shiraz Cabernet has attractive bright aromatics with a hint of rose petal, ripe, sweet intense mulberry and dark plum flavours that are rich and concentrated. Theres an alluring juiciness, velvety texture and soft, ripe tannins to provide an approachable finish. Remember the Quaff mantra – cheap wine is only good value when the quality is there. This is excellent value for money and a Bloody Good red."Bloody Good - Peter Forrestal,, (05/May/2010)

Winery Tasting Notes

Magnificent colour. Full satsuma plum and magenta.

Very much a Shiraz dominant wine with rich and ripe blackberry fruit with spicy undertones of anise and nutmeg.

2008 has been a cracker year for Shiraz in WA and this wine is no exception. Perfectly ripened flavours, smooth tannins and a gorgeous mouthfeel to boot. I regard this vintage of this wine as the best ever made.

Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition

"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”

Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
