A real fruit-driven wine but complex enough to satisfy the most ardent Shiraz and serious red wine drinker. Beautifully perfumed, aromatic, peppery/raspberry bouquet and lovely softly textured palate with long, sweet red fruits.

Western Australia

Winery Tasting Notes

Classic dark cherry red with a solid magenta hue.

Beautiful big, lifted perfumed nose filled with floral accents, spice and liquorice notes.

All that is on the nose comes through on to the palate. In addition there is an unmistakable dark cherry flavour influence reminiscent of great Black Forest cake. The spice comes through this primary fruit character whilst the texture and structure of the wine are seamless.

This wine is the perfect follow-up to the 2008 which took all before it to become Australia's best red wine at the 2009 National Wine Show in Canberra. A real fruit-driven wine but complex enough to satisfy the most ardent Shiraz and serious red wine drinker.

Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition

"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”

Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
