This is a medium bodied Shiraz which while certainly being a fruit-driven wine does have added complexity and character from barrel fermentation and maturation. Sweet blackberry fruit and the aforementioned spices all come together to make a fine red wine with opulence and balance. The harmony extends to the long finish.
Loaded with savoury spicy fruit which attacks from the first sniff. It is intense and this carries through into the deep and punchy palate that is both focused and long. Deliciously flavoursome in the mouth with fully ripe tannins and well-weighted oak in support.Rating 91 - Ray Jordan, West Australian (19/AUG/2010)
Lots of folks will go nuts over this. It’s got plenty of sweet, slippery fruit flavour. It tastes of cherry jam, aniseed, apricots and earthy characters. It’s more sweet than it is savoury. The tannins are grainy and warm and there’s a real sense of round generosity to it. Rating 90 - Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (01/JUN/2010)
This represents all that is great about good priced shiraz wines. It could be put down for 10 years to mature, but its a pleasure to drink right now. My suggestion is to buy four, drink two in the near future and then rediscover how its grown and developed a few years down the track. Rating 88 - Peter Chapman, Coffs Coast Advocate (13/JAN/2011)
Deep pleasure in a glass, top reviews come easily to Sandalford, with Shiraz drawing the most praise. The model of a refined Shiraz, the Sandalford mob would have given a nod of respect to this tobacco spiced rich black currant wine. And while it is only the baby of their range, high-fives are in order. Sexy blackish purple looks show the wines elegant side. The nose picks up on lifted cedar and quince jelly, courtesy of a splash of Viognier, bring on the cheeses. French oak has taken good fruit and delivered with vanilla oak character and fine-matt tannins which promise cellar rewards...Rating 9/10 - Geraldton Guadian (11/AUG/2010)
Bright, although light, crimson-purple hue; a fragrant, gently spiced, bouquet leads into an elegant medium-bodied palate that doesn't show its heat until the aftertaste, and then only slightly.Rating 89 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011
Beautifully perfumed, aromatic peppery/raspberry bouquet and lovely softly textured palate with long, sweet red fruits.Rating 3.5 Stars - Paul Boulden, Alan Dineen & Alex Hudack, Winestate Magazine (01/JUN/2010)
This wine holds its own against its predecessor – the stunning 2008 Margaret River shiraz, which added plenty of trophies to Sandalford’s cabinet. It is blessed with intense plum and cherry flavours, is flecked with black pepper, fine tannins and excellent balance making it a class act, just like its older sibling. 17-18.4 Points - Larissa Bray & Alan Dinneen, Scoop (01/APR/2010)
Colour
Dark ruby red with some magenta. Nose Classic Margaret River Shiraz with some perfumed floral notes in addition to the aromatic spices of anise, clove and bergamot.

This wine will continue to mature gracefully for up to five years and is a match with any red meat or spicy vegetarian dishes.
Red 5 Star Winery James Halliday, Austarlian Wine Companion 2011 Edition
"RED 5 STAR WINERY – Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”
Australia’s most pre-eminent wine critic, James Halliday, awards Sandalford Wines the very coveted RED 5 star rating in the Australian Wine Companion 2011 Edition.
Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.
In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.
A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
