There is an immediate wash of sweet brambly fruit flavours in the mouth perfectly weighted with silk-like tannins and balancing acidity. The oak nuances are well balanced in respect of fruit and the finish is one of elegance and structure. This is top of the tree for Sandalford, introduced a few years ago. Wonderfully poised and elegant expression cabernet from this original planting in the early seventies. Silky smooth and seamless structured with fine tannins and fragrant oak supporting the fruit. The palate has a more medium weight but there is extraordinary depth and power sitting behind it. Sandalford's flagship wine, the Prendiville Cabernet Sauvigon, had a fair bit to live up to this year. The rest of the Sandalford range had moved up a gear, with the mid priced estate Cabernet blend in particular impressing with its balance and restraint. Could this wine step up to the plate and justify such an ambitious price tag? You betcha. It is the quintessential Margaret River Cabernet, dusty and gravelly, with delicate cedar and blackcurrant aroma's. Flavours are medium weight, with concentrated, savoury cassis and chocolate dominating. Beautiful line and length, lovely linear shape to this wine, the most miniscule tannins rounding off the finish in a dry, composed manner, with impressive persistence. Dark cherry with an unmistakable magenta hue.


In what is atypical for Margaret River this wine has almost a floral nose reminiscent of perfumed violets. The hallmark Cabernet character of blackcurrant is certainly present as is the cedary and wet forest floor notes derived from both fruit and French oak.

Sandalford Wines was established in 1840 and is today privately owned by the Prendiville family.

In the early 1970’s Sandalford was one of the pioneers in establishing vineyards in the Margaret River planting 96 hectares in the sub region of Wilyabrup. It is this old, dry grown vineyard that is the source of the Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Reserve range of wines. These wines under the winemaking expertise of Paul Boulden are superb examples of Margaret River at its best, winning praise from notable wine writers and a series of trophies and gold medals at both national and international wine shows.

A new addition to the Sandalford portfolio is the Margaret River Range of wines positioned at the “midprice point” of today’s premium market. It is the fastest growing segment of the wine market and with Sandalford’s world class resources in Margaret River, this range has been developed to tap into this consumer trend. The wines are sourced from a combination of the Sandalford Estate and other premium vineyards in the Margaret River with wine styles reflecting current consumer tastes for vibrant, up front varietal flavours.
