Katnook Estate Merlot is one of the unsung heroes of the portfolio. Its substantial flavour profile offers attractive ripe varietal notes with regional spicy tones with generous palate structures and soft tannins.

- South Australia
The latest edition of this Coonawarra merlot is a stunner, with plenty of cedary oak and classic stoic Katnook style: there's mulberry, plum and cassis fruit here. The palate is juicy and fleshy, underpinned with fine tannin structure. Balanced neatly through the finish. Late sweep of toasty oak. Rating 93 and rated good value. Nick Stock, The Age/SMH Good Wine Guide 2011
Fragrant, floral aromas of dark cherries, plums, blackberries and fresh cedar/vanilla oak are delightfully perfumed. Long, smooth and juicy, its spotlessly fresh cherry/berry fruit knits tightly with lightly chocolatey oak and fine, silk tannins. Jeremy Oliver, The Australian Wine Annual 2011
"For Bordeaux lovers"
Very developed colour; the wine is at the far extreme of the savoury/black olive/cedar spectrum, with fine but persistent tannins running through the length of the palate; for Bordeaux lovers. Rating 92 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2012
Winery Tasting Notes
Deep plum with light purple tinges.
The aroma features vibrant, ripe dark berry fruit including blueberry and boysenberry. Hints of lifted violet are complemented with vibrant nutmeg and cinnamon spice notes. All the wonderful fruit characters are backed by subtle dark chocolate, vanilla and caramel oak maturation tones.
The palate is generous, rich and rounded with ample ripe juicy berry fruit flavours. The tannins are supple and seductive. Subtle and harmonious coffee and chocolate oak complements the fruit. Spicy notes lend depth and complexity to the palate.
Perfect with Moroccan-spiced lamb backstrap cooked on the barbeque, served with a Grecian salad and drizzled with lemon and paprika infused yoghurt dressing.
