The flavours here are arguably riper/sweeter than a lot of folks would like to see, but when you look at the wine as a whole – it’s hard not to come down in its favour. The ripeness here shows in stewy/raisiny highlights, no doubt due to the season’s super hot conditions. It has a smooth curranty core too though and notes of both earth and dried herb; it walks and talks its variety. Rugged tannin appears without being overdone and its persistence is impressive. It’s possible, indeed, that I’m under-rating it. Rating 90+, Campbell Mattinson (29/Apr/2011)
From McLaren Vale, this shows blackcurrant and cassis on the nose and generous palate, with restrained oak and fine, persistent tannins on the finish." Rating 89 - Mike Frost, Courier Mail, (13/May/2011)
Smart wine considering the scorching vintage conditions experienced over the 2008 summer ripening period. Matured in first and second use French oak barrels, powerful, yet textured, cherry and fruitcake-like flavours, a hint of mint, chocolate characters, balanced oak and juicy tannins.Kerry Skinner, Illawarra Mercury (14/MAY/2011)
Winery Tasting Notes
Rich dark chocolate, juic cherry and blood plum with violet notes finished by an underling hint of spice and smoke aromas.
A succulent full bodied wine, ripe dark fruit and strawberry flavours with a soft vanilla bean ice-cream like texture. The wine has a menthol fresh texture with pleasantly rounded tannins and a long finish.
Open one hour prior and serve at room temperature. Superb with Char grilled beef, rich pastas and matured cheeses.
