Expert Reviews

You don’t hear a great deal about Tatachilla nowadays though at least at this mid-tier level, the wines are in good form. This is absolutely spot on. Well flavoured, well controlled, tempered by fine, grainy tannin and full of juicy fruit. It met my expectations and, by a smidge, exceeded them. Blackberries, toast, cedary sawdust and chocolate. Fruit and oak both seamlessly combined, and complementary to one another. It’s warm and sweet/ripe, but it’s an excellent rendition of this wine style. Rating 91 - Campbell Mattinson, www.winefront.com.au (9/APR/2011)

French winemaker Fanchon Ferrandi adds a little bit of European flair to the ripe, rich reds from Tatachillas McLaren Vale vineyards. Made from parcels of grapes that were picked before the 2008 South Australian heatwave, this is a very tidy wine indeed. The flavour spectrum ranges from ripe blackberry fruit to French oak and spice. This was a wine we enjoyed over a few evenings and it was still drinking well after it had been open for several days.Winsor Dobbin, Sunday Examiner (17/APR/2011)

A blend of fruit from three separate vineyard sites in McLaren Vale. Rich and complex with plum and blackberry fruit on the nose and palate, spicy characters, clever oak treatment, supple tannins and plenty of length.Kerry Skinner, Illawarra Mercury, (14/May/2011)

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Tatachilla has been a part of McLaren Vale since vines were first planted over 100 years ago. Today the bright patchwork of olive groves, avocado orchards and rows of vines bordered by the South Australian coast impart a Mediterranean flavour to this evolving region.

Established in 1903, Tatachilla’s commitment to McLaren Vale has remained strong throughout the years. Its vineyards are scattered amongst the sloping hills and tapered basin of McLaren Vale, with fruit for Tatachilla’s wines sourced from key McLaren Vale subregions: Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale North & South and Clarendon.

Tatachilla’s own Clarendon Vineyard is the heart of Tatachilla, and the basis for our finest expressions of McLaren Vale wine.

Tatachilla’s wines evoke classic McLaren Vale characteristics blended with contemporary Mediterranean cues. The wines reflect the true character of the grapes, balancing a healthy respect for the vineyard with a light touch in the winery.
