Central Victorian Shiraz with a twist. An opulent blend of shiraz, mourvèdre and grenache with the focus on texture and a seamless finish.

Mitchelton Crescent blends the popular shiraz with the much less common mourvedre and grenache varieties. The wine is named after the crescent shaped sandbar which is home to the old shiraz vines groomed to provide fruit for the wine. The key here is blending towards the shape, texture and seamless finish of the wine. Post secondary fermentation Crescent components spend 16 months on lees maturing in 30% French Oak. This adds further complexity to this intensely rich and spiced wine.

Described by the Mitchelton Winemaking team as very much like “a dark complex personality who is fine boned, graceful and probably wears a lot of dark colours; perhaps a touch gothic or bohemian.”

Expert Reviews

"Always interesting to see one of these blends out of Victoria. Mitchelton has been a champion of Rhone varieties both white and red from long before the modern push-ish push towards them. Was speaking with Mitchelton winemaker Travis Clydesdale last week and the concentration on these varities will continue, though some of the viognier plantings are for the chop. Which doesn’t sound like a bad thing. A perfumed, meaty, medium weight wine. Good drinking. Mix of spice and sweet red, ripe berries. Smooth gummy texture. Impeccably well made. Stumbles a little through the finish but no real complaints. Perfume is the key here. "

Winery Tasting Notes

A complex tapestry of aromas lure and tantalise the senses. Plum and blackberry characters delicately intertwine with spicy cherry, baked earth, dark couverture chocolate and heady notes of fragrant lavendar.

Striking a deft balance between finesse and power, the palate is plush and velvety in texture with a signature regional rustic bite. Beguiling flavours of maraschino cherry, mulberry, tobacco, nutmeg and cedary oak prevail ahead of a blanket of fine and powdery tannin on the long and flavoursome finish.
