Winery Tasting Notes
The 2009 Ackland Riesling is a wonderfully pure example of the Riesling variety. It remains true to the style and elegance for which the Ackland vineyard is famous. The wine showcases a heady bouquet of citrus fruits, orange blossom and marzipan while the palate reveals intense lemon and lime fruits carried by seamless texture and refreshing mineral acidity to a dry and delicate finish.
Vintage: The 2009 vintage will be remembered as one of the warmest on record, mainly due to an unrelenting 15 day heatwave in early March. To our advantage, all Knappstein’s fruit was picked prior to this - one month earlier than usual. Ripening conditions through January and February were ideal with mild temperatures, clear skies and cool nights ensuring maximum preservation and accumulation of delicate Clare Valley aromatics and texture. Continued drought conditions guaranteed low yields resulting in wines which show great generosity and intensity while maintaining wonderful Clare Valley style and elegance.
Winemaking: The wine was made with minimal intervention to preserve fruit purity. The fruit was hand picked and gently crushed with only the best free-run juice used. It was then cold settled and fermented with neutral yeast at cool temperatures to dryness. The wine was cold settled prior to filtration and bottling.
Cellaring: This wine will reward ageing for up to 10 years
