Generally, I prefer to taste red wine over a period of time to get to know it, but sometimes that’s not possible – especially given the volume of wine that’s out there. This one is a classic ‘glass to glasser’, as our Mike might say. Juicy apricot and cherry stone with high toned floral notes along with red-ish fruit flavours. It’s quite fresh, shows a little warmth, has lightly chalky tannins, good juicy and highly slurp-able flavour and good length – no problems structurally. So there you have it in a nutshell- a juicy, fruit forward and pretty wine that’s made for getting stuck into.Rating 91 - Gary Walsh, www.winefront.com.au (09/MAY/2011)
Any debate about the very best value red in Australia must always include consideration of St Hs Faith. And the 2009 is another rolled gold bargain. Plums, red fruits, spice, this is fresh and bright and clean. Lovely aromatics. Hints of chocolate and also a hint of cinnamon. This vintage has 5% Eden Valley material and not only that, it is blended from 60 different individual parcels. Has excellent length, and mid palate density. Just delicious. And stunning value.Rating 90 - Ken Gargett, www.spitbucket.com (29/JUN/2011)
St Halletts entry-point top level red is perennial favourite 2009 Faith Shiraz, which Blackwell and Barlow constructed from 60 individual fruit parcels. The result is a beautifully balanced, complex wine with heaps of easy-drinking upfront flavours.John Fordham, Sunday Telegraph (15/MAY/2011)
Winery Tasting Notes
Deep red with magenta hues.
A vibrant nose of lifted red fruits of cherry and raspberry, with underlying spices and chocolate. The vibrant character this wine exhibits is the essential hallmark of the 2009 vintage.
The delicious red fruits of the nose continue on to the palate, combining with hints of milk chocolate and spice notes. It offers a fruit driven juicy front palate followed by an even, textural experience with smooth and supple tannins. This generous wine displays why it has established it self as a benchmark Barossa Shiraz.
This wine is perfect company to the usual suspects; grilled rack of lamb or fillet steak. It is also amazingly versatile as it partners a variety of cuisines-try with fragrant curries spiced with cinnamon and cardamom. The 2009 Faith Shiraz can also be enjoyed on its own as ag lass that bursts with flavour.
Enjoy now or cellar until 2014 for further complexity.
