St Hallett Poacher’s Blend is a daringly fun and light-hearted white blend with a twist in its tail!

Undeniably fresh and lifted, this unpretentious young wine is blended predominantly from Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with a special proportion of Riesling added each vintage giving it an unusual twist and a crisp, citrus finish.

Expert Reviews

This is consistently one of the best value blended whites on the market and has been a personal favourite of mine for some years. Always delivers with a fruity rounded palate brimming with abundant tropical, melony fruit. Nice fine acid to finish.Ray Jordan, West Australian (04/NOV/2010)

Quite intense green bean/capsicum aromas and flavoursome buttery palate with steely acidity.Rating 3 Star - Matt Holdstock, Neville Falkenberg and Stephen Bennett, Winestate Magazine (OCT/2010)

Bright yellow with a hint of green, this is one refreshing and lip-smacking value-driven blend. Crisp and racy flavours dance on the palate with lemon sorbet and a bowl of ripe tropical fruit to the fore. This is nicely balanced and textured, while the finish lingers with mouth-watering tang. It’s lovely sipped on its own and pairs well with mussels steamed in white wine—this white wine.Rating 3.5 Star -, Vic Harradine (Global, UK) (20/FEB/2010)

Winery Tasting Notes

Pale straw yellow with a subtle green hue.

The nose is brimming full of lifted limes, tropical fruit aromas of passionfruit, melon, pineapple with underlying grassy aromas.

Full flavoured and generous, the palate exhibits an array of fruit flavours that persist over the whole length of the palate, finishing with a twist of lime. The slightly phenolic backbone provides structure and mouth feel, which is balanced with zingy crisp acidity.

Food Matching

This wine marries with the freshwater crustaceans and fish that are regularly "poached" from the creeks and waterways of landowners in the country. The simple, fresh pristine flavours of fresh yabby and blue swimmer crab meat are the perfect complement as are spicy Thai seafood dishes. Best served freshly chilled.

This wine subtly evolves and offers vibrant and fresh fruit flavours and aromas for the two years after vintage.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

In the heart of the Barossa Valley, Australia’s best known wine region, lies St Hallett, one of the country’s premier wine producers. Established by the Lindner Family in 1944, for many years St Hallett’s winemaking focus was, like many local wineries, on producing fortified wines. However during the seventies and eighties St Hallett turned to explore the true potential of the Barossa through premium table wines. This has resulted in St Hallett’s elevation as one of Australia’s best producers.

St Hallett is renowned for crafting full-flavored, textured wines entirely from Barossa Valley fruit and is credited with producing benchmark wines of the region such as the iconic St Hallett Old Block Shiraz, made from vines aged up to 100 years old.
