Every Poacher needs a Gamekeeper! The companion to our bright and zesty Poacher's Blend, this wine is typical of traditional Barossa red blends.
St Hallett Gamekeeper’s Shiraz Grenache - unique in its own way like Poacher's Blend - includes a tiny proportion of Touriga Nacional in the mix, giving it a floral and spice finish.
"Pretty wine with lifted, floral aromas, wine gum-like flavours and tight tannins."Rating 3 Star - Peter Simic, Troy Kalleske & Matt O’Leary, Winestate (DEC/2010)
Grape Varieties
Shiraz 50%, Grenach 40% and splash of Touriga Nacional (a traditional Portuguese variety) 10%.
Colour
Vibrant and lively plum red with purple hues, which has become the trademark of this youthful exuberant wines.
Aroma
Lifted floral with generous dark cherry and violets. A spicy rose petal-like infusion from the Touriga Nacional combines to complete the sensory experience.
Palate
New world vibrant fresh array of red berry fruits and spice with an underlying old world European earthiness. The spicy pepper of the Shiraz and the generous, gamey, juice raspberry flavours of Grenache finish with soft yet assertive tannins. A judicious plash of Touriga adds lovely red rose petal spice. This is a very food friendly wine, it interplays rather than dominates.
Food Matching
Enjoy with antipasto, smoked meats, game or even a little roast duck - in which the Gamekeeper has been known to indulge occasionally.
Cellaring Potential
Enjoy this wine while young fresh and vibrant.
In the heart of the Barossa Valley, Australia’s best known wine region, lies St Hallett, one of the country’s premier wine producers. Established by the Lindner Family in 1944, for many years St Hallett’s winemaking focus was, like many local wineries, on producing fortified wines. However during the seventies and eighties St Hallett turned to explore the true potential of the Barossa through premium table wines. This has resulted in St Hallett’s elevation as one of Australia’s best producers.
St Hallett is renowned for crafting full-flavored, textured wines entirely from Barossa Valley fruit and is credited with producing benchmark wines of the region such as the iconic St Hallett Old Block Shiraz, made from vines aged up to 100 years old.
