"Strong crimson-purple; rich and concentrated, but with no dead or confit fruit flavours; excellent texture and structure. "

Big Red Wine Book 2009/2010, Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (Australia), 29 May 09

Vintage: 2007

94 Points

"Massive wine but really really good for it. It’s thick with saturated, chocolatey, blackberried flavour and, from the first moment you smell it to the last savoured drop, it satisfies in every way….it’s all just glorious, powerful black wine flavour. ", Gary Walsh (Australia), 14 Feb 09

Vintage: 2007

"There’s a good clip of toasty clove oak with lush black and red fruits, a spicy sauciness and licorice/aniseed richness. Then a big chewy mouthful of flavour with smooth but loose knit grainy tannins that coat the mouth - it really pushes through and keeps on going. Full but not all hot and heavy like so many - certainly delicious. If you like a good Barossa Shiraz then it’s time to dip your bucket into the old Blackwell once again. "

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

In the heart of the Barossa Valley, Australia’s best known wine region, lies St Hallett, one of the country’s premier wine producers. Established by the Lindner Family in 1944, for many years St Hallett’s winemaking focus was, like many local wineries, on producing fortified wines. However during the seventies and eighties St Hallett turned to explore the true potential of the Barossa through premium table wines. This has resulted in St Hallett’s elevation as one of Australia’s best producers.

St Hallett is renowned for crafting full-flavored, textured wines entirely from Barossa Valley fruit and is credited with producing benchmark wines of the region such as the iconic St Hallett Old Block Shiraz, made from vines aged up to 100 years old.
