An acknowledged icon of the Barossa, St Hallett Old Block is an elegant and seamless Shiraz, widely recognised as world-class. Derived from low cropping old vines of 60 to 100 years of age, Old Block Shiraz is by its very nature exclusive.

"There’s an expectation of how these old-vine Barossa shiraz wines should taste. They almost have to have been handled traditionally – the same way they’ve been handled for the past twenty-five years. It has showy, coffeed, malty oak and dark, blackberried fruit. It’s a bit too coffeed for the most part – but then it comes through fresh and fruity on the finish. Pretty sure this wine will stand the test of time. Winery Tasting Notes
64% Barossa Valley 36% Eden Valley.
Medium density reds with a touch of crimson.
Elegant restraint is what immediately comes to mind – with a swirl of the glass the underlying complexity of this wine becomes apparent. There is the classic Eden Valley warming menthol aspect initially followed by blackberry fruit and dusty well integrated spicy French oak.
Beautifully poised at the moment with perfect balance between bright acidity and soft lingering tannins. The effect of the higher than usual portion of Eden Valley fruit is steering this wine into the more refined and subtle arena. The cooler Eden Valley provides the seamless tannins and elegant fruit. The Barossa Valley kicks in some density and then usual juiciness.
Endeavour to decant this wine 2 to 3 hours prior to serving. Excellent with rich venison and other game dishes.
The elegant 2007 Vintage is expected to evolve beautifully over the next 15 years and with correct cellaring should peak between 2018 and 2022.
