The bouquet instantly evokes memories of moments tasting some excellent Eden Valley Shiraz wines. It is highly floral with an infusion of menthol and pepper spice. Powerful, pungent aromas of dark chocolate and coffee are entwined with a soft, underlying sweet milk chocolate.
The Australian Wine Annual 2010, Jeremy Oliver (Australia, New Zealand), 01 Oct 09
Vintage: 2006
95 Points
"A distinctive, savoury, deeply flavoured and more elegant expression of Barossa shiraz with plenty of rustic charm. Backed by farmyard-like undertones, its lightly smoky aromas of dark plums, raspberries, cassis and cedar/chocolate oak reveal a distinct meaty aspect that is probably enhanced by its seasoned new oak. Its smooth, vibrant palate of intense, plump fruit and vanilla oak is underpinned by a deliciously tight and crunchy undercarriage of fine tannin. "
Big Red Wine Book 2009/2010, Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (Australia), 29 May 09
Vintage: 2006
94 Points
"Walsh tasted this and straight out went “Cor!”. He reckons it’s so juicy and thick and concentrated that it tastes of barbecue sauce and smoked pork ribs, or a syrup of those things combined. It also tastes of blackberry, licorice and toasty oak, but all its saturated flavour it still seems fresh and not too heavy….there’s little doubt the wine is tops. "
Color
Deep garnet reds with a hint of violet; this depth of colour is a highlight of the 2005 vintage. The appearance is slightly opaque due to the minimal filtration this wine undergoes. This is performed to minimize the chance of “stripping” any of the wine's delicate aromas.
Aroma

Palate
Here the wine underplays the power within; the palate displays a compelling elegance and persistence with textured, seamless tannins. There is also a lovely round, cuddy chewiness that adds to the complexity and textural nature of this wine, which promises to age gracefully over the next 2 decades.
Food Matching
Endeavour to decant this wine 2 to 3 hours prior to serving. Excellent with rich venison and other game dishes.
Cellaring Potential
The superb 2006 Vintage is expected to evolve beautifully over the next 15 - 18 years and with correct cellaring should peak in 20 years.
In the heart of the Barossa Valley, Australia’s best known wine region, lies St Hallett, one of the country’s premier wine producers. Established by the Lindner Family in 1944, for many years St Hallett’s winemaking focus was, like many local wineries, on producing fortified wines. However during the seventies and eighties St Hallett turned to explore the true potential of the Barossa through premium table wines. This has resulted in St Hallett’s elevation as one of Australia’s best producers.
St Hallett is renowned for crafting full-flavored, textured wines entirely from Barossa Valley fruit and is credited with producing benchmark wines of the region such as the iconic St Hallett Old Block Shiraz, made from vines aged up to 100 years old.
