Expert Reviews

92 PTS "Shows the pristine pure varietal fruit of sauvignon blanc from this very good vineyard. Has a delightfully fresh gooseberry herbal note with very subtle smoky minerality. Lovely leaner style with plenty of palate intensity." - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2009

Winery Tasting Notes

Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc from our Pemberton vineyards, the 2008 Smithbrook Sauvignon Blanc is a delicate wine with a nice balance of richness and structured intensity.

Immediately after opening the nose shows fresh passion fruit and lime zest, with a touch of rose petal and perfumed dried herbs. The palate is very elegant with an abundance of tangy citrus fruits balanced by some nice mid-palate passion fruit sweetness and rolling intensity.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The Smithbrook vineyard is located amongst majestic “tall trees” on a pristine hill in the Pemberton wine region in the south west corner of Western Australia.

Planted in the late 1980s, the vineyard represents the most significant mature vineyard in the region. The warm Indian Ocean to the West and the cool Southern Ocean to the south create a maritime climate.

Smithbrook focuses on two key varietals - Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, identified as the best varieties for this region.

Smithbrook has a natural, sustainable approach to managing the vineyard; low-yielding dry grown vines, roaming Guinea Fowl to control insects and no harmful sprays all assist to grow balanced vines. Vineyard philosophy employed includes rigorous programme of heavy pruning, minimal irrigation and low cropping in order to increase the fruit quality of the vineyard.
