94 Points Vibrant crimson an aromatic bouquet with licorice, dark chocolate, black fruits and oak all showing, and which are duly repeated on the finely structured palate, finishing with silky tannins. James Halliday Wine Companion 2010 Jun-09
93 Points & 4 1/2 Stars "…a newie to the collection and a welcome addition indeed. It packs a good deal more flesh and swirling fruit than the standard edition, yet still retains the house hallmark of elegance and balance. Sensatiol sweet plum fruit, pure and compelling." Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2009, Nick Stock (Australia), 2009
91 Points & 4 Stars "There are rich, dark chocolate and smoky barrel characters to sniff, together with a whiff of licorice and blackberry. It’s an ultra-ripe but not overly alcoholic shiraz of delicious balance and softness." Gourmet Traveller WINE, Huon Hooke (Australia), 11 Dec 08
5 Stars / Wine of the Week "Corioles wines sum up whats great about modern McLaren Vale wine, especially shiraz. This densely coloured young example has a very concentrated nose that suggests chocolatey Sierra cake, plums and spices. In the mouth its like an essence of McLaren Vale shiraz with deep flavour, solid structure and a firm backbone of ripe tannins. Everything is in the right place for future bottle development. Keep it as long as you can and reap the dividends of mellow maturity." Epicure - The AGE, Ralph Kyte Powell (Australia), October 2008
Winery Tasting Notes
Well integrated oak tannin provide flavours of clove and supple texture which supports the rich plum, blackberry and mocha. Lifted spice and ripe mulberry/blackberry aromas are complimented with chocolate, cedar and cinnamon on the nose. The overall structure is supple and generous, in keeping with the general 2006 vintage style, with fine-grained tannin on the finish enveloped with ripe fruit overtones.
