Expert Reviews

West Australian, Ray Jordan (Australia), 08 Oct 09

Vintage: 2008

88 Points

"Some lovely floral creamy rich fruit with a pleasant palate supported by fine acid. Semillon is made in tank and has the lemon blossom clover character, and the chardonnay gets a little barrel fermentation with no malo. There is also some sav blanc and pinot gris. Has a more herbaceous lift. Nice wine."

Winewise, Lester Jesberg (Australia), 01 Dec 09

Vintage: 2008

"Shows advanced colour and flavour, but the toasty/lanolin characteristics of semillon drive the full flavoured palate. "

Illawarra Mercury, Kerry Skinner (Australia), 12 Dec 09

Vintage: 2008

"The addition of small amount of pinot gris to the traditional blend of semillon, sauvignon and chardonnay gives this wine a little more sparkle with its stonefruit, citrus and tropical fruit flavours, lively acidity and crisp, clean finish."

Brand Profile Image

Henschke is one of the longest established family names in the Barossa and the Australian wine industry. Johann Christian Henschke first planted vines in Keyneton in 1861, producing his first commercial vintage in 1868.

The tradition of quality winemaking has passed down through the generations – today seeing Stephen Henschke and his wife, Prue, as winemaker and viticulturist respectively.

Awarded "International Red Winemaker of the Year" in 1996 at the London Wine Show, Stephen and Prue were in 2006, awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine's "Winemaker of the Year" in recognition of winemaking excellence in both red and white wines. These Awards recognise the consistent and continuing success of this remarkable couple.

Prue has, for the last 18 years, explored and now employs both organic and biodynamic strategies to maximise the potential for the fruit from these unique vineyards to fully express their individual terroirs.
