"Restrained, distinctly mineral nose, with herbal edges. Soft lychee palate, gentle nectarine and apricot flavours, subtly interwoven to create nice complexity. Quite richly fruity and round but with elegant appeal from careful balancing acidity. Very long mineral finish with plenty of fruit."

"Eden Valley Riesling is one of Australia’s great white wines. Henschke’s version has a long history and it’s still one of the best. The 2009 vintage has lime, cinnamon, apple and floral aromas with a steely thread underneath. It tastes elegant and pure with deliciously tangy flavours that will benefit from bottle age to build extra dimension. A classic."

"Tightly focused, long and linear, this fine and bony riesling has a spicy, floral, slightly estery and candied bouquet with some slightly pungent mineral notes. Underpinned by a fine chalkiness, it’s very subdued and complex, metering out fine layers of alluring fruit before finishing with lingering savoury qualities. "

"Oh, the joy of Eden Valley riesling. A classic style with a haunting fragrance, a mixure of sherbet and spice, lemon blossom and slate. Delicate and poised on the palate, with a crunch of acid and long, bone-dry finish."

"I don’t think Henschke are certified biodynamic but they run their vineyards using biodynamic principles and preparations. This 2009 Julius Riesling has me quite enchanted. Yes it’s lovely. Refreshing, zesty, balanced and intense-enough - without ever threatening fatness. Spice and bath salts. Limes, of course. Nice length. Simply, a delightful wine. You’d be right to call it elegant. Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Henschke is one of the longest established family names in the Barossa and the Australian wine industry. Johann Christian Henschke first planted vines in Keyneton in 1861, producing his first commercial vintage in 1868.

The tradition of quality winemaking has passed down through the generations – today seeing Stephen Henschke and his wife, Prue, as winemaker and viticulturist respectively.

Awarded "International Red Winemaker of the Year" in 1996 at the London Wine Show, Stephen and Prue were in 2006, awarded Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine's "Winemaker of the Year" in recognition of winemaking excellence in both red and white wines. These Awards recognise the consistent and continuing success of this remarkable couple.

Prue has, for the last 18 years, explored and now employs both organic and biodynamic strategies to maximise the potential for the fruit from these unique vineyards to fully express their individual terroirs.
