Fruit for The Architect comes from our younger vines planted in 1995. The blocks on which it is grown have a southerly aspect and are very cool. Vertically trained vines are grown in red, rocky soil, free-draining and deep; ideal for this variety.

94 Points. "The flagship wine of Philip Shaws range is a complete, balanced belnd with great line and persistence. The bouquet has a floral lift and sweet, spicy strawberry fruit, while the palate is fine and lively with vibrant rhubarb, spicy stewed plums and layers of pepper." Wine Business Monthly, Tyson Stelzer (Australia), July 08
Matthew Jukes 100 Best Australian Wines 2009. "The drama quotient is on red alert with this unoaked, yet searingly dry Orange Chardony. The Shaw manifesto states that every wine released from this operation should challenge the drinker with every sip. The leesy, tangy, white-knuckle fruit on display here makes your brain pop with excitement as you murmur appreciatively into your glass." www.matthewjukes.com, Matthew Jukes (Global), May 2009
Winery Tasting Notes
Light straw with sun-kissed green hue.
Vibrant fresh fruit aromas. This chardonnay has amazing power of fruit and clarity balanced with layers of character and complexity.
The intense fruit flavour continues onto the palate. The extended time on yeast lees has supported the fruit and mid-palate softness. The varietal fruit flavours are present leaving a wonderful fresh, clean and long finish.
