Concentrated, rich dark berry fruits with soft, ripe tannins and balanced acidity keeping the structure together. Long and quite elegant.

"Clare Shiraz is not at the top of my list of favourites. Pikes, however is one I always enjoy. The 2008 is from that heatwave vintage, but it remains full of primary fruit flavour Its also well-balanced without any heavy oak influence. It will mature in a good cellar but I prefer it as a young wine, still full of its youthful vibrancy." 5 Stars - Fergus McGhie, Canberra Times, (08/DEC/2010)
"The Pikes family has a reputation for brilliant riesling but the shiraz is also worthy of mention. The 2008 Eastside Shiraz is a delicious drop with plenty of character. I love its dense mulberry stewed fruits character. Theres lightness to the palate, too, along with cinnamon and dried-spice savoury flavours." Chris Shanahan, Canberra Times (21/Aug/2010)
Winery Tasting Notes
Deep red - almost black
Super ripe blueberry, plum and blackberry Shiraz fruit with some dark chocolate and liquorice notes as well. These are all complimented nicely by a touch of charry French oak somewhere in the mix.
The palate is soft and powerful with flavours of blueberry, plum and charry oak overlaying a core of dark chocolate running through the mid palate. Silky tannins on the finish
adds length and a little structure to the ripe, plush fruit.
A lovely example of Clare Valley Shiraz. No problem in enjoying this as a youthful wine, but as usual 4-7+ years will see some development occur in the wine and amply repay those like more complex aged characters in their reds.
