Expert Reviews

95 Points & Outstanding. Medium to full bodied, intense, long and focused; blackberry fruit with quality oak and fleeting hints of choc mint all work very well in the mouth; fine tannins on the finish. James Halliday James Halliday Wine Companion 2009 Jan-09

4.5 Stars / 94 Points. True reserve wine style and intensity, it’s built for the long haul and impresses with balance as well as intensity. Deep seated plum and chocolate flavours, ripe thunderous tannins and the promise of great years ahead. Nick Stock Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2009 Jan-09

95 Points. "med after patriarch of the Pike family, Edgar Walter Pike, this is a sumptuous red wine. Delicious black fruits ensue. Deep, dark and dense as well as intense in composition. Inky purple youthfulness stains the glass. A luxuriant impressive wine with melded and integrated oak, lashings of milk chocolate, liquorice and ripe plums as well as cherries and blackberries on the finish making it a ripe juicy full bodied style of Shiraz, albeit with class and a very good structure. Smooth velvet tannins augur for a long future as we. Try it with roast beef." Wine Rush, Paul Ippolito (Australia), July 08

95 Points. "Medium- to full-bodied, intense, long and focused; blackberry fruit with quality oak and fleeting hints of choc mint all work very well in the mouth; fine tannins on the finish. In honour of founder Edgar Walter Pike." www.winecompanion.com.au, James Halliday (Australia), July 2008

Brand Profile Image

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
