Expert Reviews

Matthew Jukes 100 Best Australian Wines. Just to show that the South Africans aren’t the only people in the wine world to make ‘something out of nothing white blends’ so successfully, Pikes Mullet is a Riesling/ Viognier/ Sauvignon Blanc/ Chenin Blanc blend which confounds the sceptics and defies belief by tasting incredibly complex, as it should do, but also downright delicious at the same time (which most don’t). Mullets all round please. Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com May-09

Winery Tasting Notes

Medium to pale green colour.

Fresh and zesty aromas of citrus, tropicals and stonefruit with just the slightest hint of cut grass / nettles evident.

Crisp, fresh and flavoursome with citrus and stonefruit the main drivers here. The core of soft “fruit salad” flavours sit gently in the mouth, while well balanced acidity keeps the finish fresh, vibrant and dry.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
