Another top flight Pikes Dogwalk, offering the rich aromas and flavours of the vineyard with a bit of backbone on the palate. Good drink now for such a young wine, but will take 4-8 years cellaring without any problems at all.

QANTAS - The Australian Way, Peter Forrestal (Australia), 01 Sep 09
"Liquorice, dark cassis, sweet, earthy nuances and a gentle fan of oak spice. The palate has decent chewy appeal, with hearty flavour and structure teamed up nicely. Claret-like charm; builds weight through the finish. Plenty of wine for the money."
The Australian Wine Annual 2010, Jeremy Oliver (Australia, New Zealand), 01 Oct 09
"Ripe, confiture-like aromas of berries and plums are backed by sweet cedar/vanilla oak and undertones of mint and dried herbs. It’s smooth and elegant, with a bright, evenly ripened palate of fullish to medium weight whose juicy flavours of small berries and tight-knit oak are supported by fine, grainy tannins. It finishes with pleasing length and brightness."
Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010, Nick Stock (Australia, New Zealand), 01 Dec 09
"More than a hint of licorice here, with dark cassis fruit, some sweet earthy nuances, a fan of oak spice and some cedary lift. A little pepper on the palate, this has decent chewy rustic appeal, tannins are solid and cry out for a piece of protein. Chewy through the finish – plenty of wine for the money, an air of regional authenticity and claret-like charm."
Winery Tasting Notes
Attractive aromas of ripe blackcurrant and black cherries, with a touch of "charry" french oak complimenting the concentrated fruit characters. Also some dark chocolate and violet/leafy note showing. Typical Dogwalk.
Rich flavours of ripe, dark fruits and chocolate are the features here with fine, dry tannins, subtle oak and balanced acidity adding length and structure to the finish.
