Expert Reviews

The top-tier Pikes Riesling is rich and composed in 2010 showing abundant lime and lime sherbet, some bath powder and grey slate aromas too. The palate’s richly textured, deeply flavoured and dry – lime peel and lemon pith with some attractive chew to close. Rating 94 - Nick Stock, WBM (01/NOV/2010)

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Brilliant pale green

Aroma

Pure, but delicate citrus notes of lemon/lime/grapefruit with a twirl of our regional ‘slatey’ mineral character evident.

Palate

Delicate, subtle and dry with vibrant lemon/lime flavours tightly woven around a core of slate/mineral acid that provides length and texture to the wine.

Cellaring Potential

It has the potential to cellar for 8-10+ yrs safely bottled under the screwcap closure.

Vintage Condition

A really good wine from a challenging year due to the early harvest date. Again a great expression of Riesling from our vineyard at Polish Hill River.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Pikes Vintners is an iconic family owned and operated winery set amongst the hills and valleys of South Australia's beautiful Clare Valley.

Established in 1984 the winery and vineyards are situated in the historic and picturesque Polish Hill River sub region on the eastern side of the Clare Valley. The climate in this area is cooler and the soils are quite different compared to the rest of the region, imparting distinctive flavours and aromas to the wines.

Pikes is best known for its world class Riesling, but is becoming increasingly recognized for high quality, elegant red wines and their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. Pikes have also been a leader in planting new and alternative varieties to the district including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio and Viognier. Pikes also produces Pikes Oakbank- a sparkling Pilsener style beer.

The distinctive English Pike fish appears on all Pikes products.
