Expert Reviews

A relatively quiet opening on the bouquet and fore-palate, but takes off on the brilliant and vibrant finish; full of zesty, tangy fruit entwined with acidity. Rating 94 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2010

Winery Tasting Notes

Vibrant, pale green.

Elegant citrus and white floral notes are abound with a background of lime zest.

The notes on the nose follow through to the palate with a rich lemon lime backbone and a great depth and length. Lively acidity ensures the wine will drink well in the medium to long term.

Winemaking Notes

Fruit is delivered immediately to the winery on a cool night after machine harvesting. Following de-stemming, the must is then chilled, and rapid, gentle, juice separation in a membrane press helps ensure the retention of fresh varietal characters and minimal phenolic extraction. The juice is centrifuged and then inoculated with a selected yeast strain and fermented at 12° to 14°C over a two-week period. Attention to detail and anaerobic handling of the wine during blending, stabilisation and filtration to bottling has retained the fresh varietal and regional flavours of the wine.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Richmond Grove Wines maxim proclaims special wines from special places, and Richmond Grove is nested in its own special place, in the Barossa Valley town of Tanunda.

At Richmond Grove we believe that to make the best wine, the grapes must be selected from the regions most suited to that particular grape variety. For this reason we source our grapes from across Australia's most renowned wine making districts to create a portfolio of wines that showcase the distinctive characters of geographical regions within Australia.

Richmond Grove began life more than a century ago in 1897 when Ernst Gottlieb Hoffman began making wine under the Orange Grove label and the winery has been producing wine ever since. Over the past century the winery has undergone many changes, yet it has always maintained its grandeur and prominence in producing wines of exceptional quality.

In 1955 Australian winemaking icon, John Vickery joined to the company as Chief Winemaker, supervising all winemaking with his talented team. Almost 50 vintages later, he still calls Richmond Grove home. John is revered by many as one of Australia's most influential and successful winemakers. John has amassed more than 50 trophies and 400 gold medals for his white wines and 35 trophies and 200 medals for his red wines.

Today, under the management of Richmond Grove winemaker Steve Clarkson and with John Vickery's guidance this famous winery is producing premium regional varietal wines sourced from Australia's finest wine regions.
