Made with fruit sourced from some of the oldest vines (over 25 years) the Reserve Pinot Noir showcases Pinot Noir's layers and complexity coupled with elegance and richness of flavour.
"Clear, light reddish-crimson; a blend of five vineyard sites; the red fruit and spice aromas lead into a very light but silky palate, with just enough tannin emphasis on the finish to catch attention."
Rating 93 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013
"Perfumed with seductive notes of cherry rose, and Turkish delight, cherry and plum, attractive frame of lifted, red beries that leads into a palate of rolling spice. Good intensity and length with clean acids that push through the finish. This is everything you could look for in a Pinot, polished and impressive."
Patrick Haddock, www.viningpom.com.au (AUG/2012)
Colour
Deep and intense ruby red.
Aroma
Seductive dark fruits, with some spicy fruit and oak lift.
Palate
Some brooding blackcurrant and dark plum open up to reveal a highly structured palate, with mouth coating tannins and earthy raspberry complexity. A long and intense flavour packed palate points towards a long life ahead of this very limited release.
Winemaking Note
Pinot Noir grapes were carefully selected from four of our most outstanding vineyards: Windmill, KBS, Lyncroft together with the Stonier Family Vineyard, Stonier’s original Pinot Noir planting from 1982. The hand-picked fruit was fermented in small, open fermenters, with about 80% receiving extended skin maceration, and around 5% being whole bunch fermented. Post ferment it was pressed to French oak (35% new) for malolactic fermentation and ageing with minimal winemaking interference before bottling.
Stonier are pioneers of the Mornington Peninsula where they first planted Chardonnay in 1978 and Pinot Noir in 1982. Stonier achieve wines of the highest quality through continual improvements in viticulture and attention to detail in the winery. In each of the Stonier wines, Mike Symons looks for that extra degree of varietal definition and site expression. His aim is to continue to develop wines with a regional style, refined structure and seamless complexity.
