Expert Reviews

A complex bouquet of melon, nectarine, grilled almonds and spice from the oak handling; deep and compelling, the palate provides ample fruit, and finishes with a strong toasty/nutty conclusion; long and savoury. Rating 92 - James Halliday, Australian Companion Edition 2011

"With the clarity of fruit to speak loud and clear over its roast nut oak, this is one of Stonier Reserve’s finest moments. The focus instead moves to the restraint of its white peach and zesty lemon fruit. Which is of course, precisely as it should be. " Rating 94 - Tyson Stelzer, WBM (01/09/2010)

"Very pale copper. Heady, Pinot Gris-like nose. Full and broad - may suffer from being a bit warmer than most but there is real complexity here. Sort of like an Alsace Chardonnay for its weight and fragrance...! " Rating 17/20 - Jancis Robinson OBE/MW (17/02/2010)

"Mature vineyards and longer elevage with 30% new oak, excellent structure and line. Shows typical high-quality structure and length. Mature wines show honey and citrus." Rating 88 - Robert Geddes MW, Australian Wine Vintages 2011 (01/08/2010)

"A compelling expression of terroir and winemaking from world class chardonnay producers. Bright grapefruit, melon and lemon rind flavours with honeysuckle nuances. Spicy vanilla bean, cashew nuttiness and soft creamy texture from fermentation and malolactic in French oak barriques. " Louiser Radman, Adelaide Advertiser (28/10/2010)

Winery Tasting Notes

Pale gold with bright green tinges.

Lemon and grapefruit aromas, with hints of peach and hazelnut are supported by well integrated French oak.

Winemaking Notes

The majority of the Reserve chardonnay was whole bunch pressed, 100% barrel fermented in French oak barriques, of which 30% was new, with natural malo-lactic fermentation occurring in all the barrels. The wine was lees-stirred monthly during the eleven months in barrel, before racking and filtering prior to bottling.
