The 2006 Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay has wonderful mineral acidity to back up this complex viscous palate. A wine that needs and deserves bottle age, but has the upfront fruit to be a great drink now.

"Significantly better than previous bottles tasted, this charmingly rich, generous and seamless chardonnay has a delicate chalky bouquet of white flowers, lemon rind, grapefruit and melon backed by suggestions of wheatmeal and minerals. It delivers concentration and a plump, fatness on the palate, but retains length, shape and focus. A reserved presence of white peach, grapefruit, melon and pear is backed by suggestions of tangerine, finely knit with savoury oak and finished by a gentle lime juice acidity. Long, waxy and briney, it delivers a delightfully persistent core of fruit."

"Deep colour, vibrant green hue; a worked bouquet, with grilled nuts, grapefruit, ripe pear and plenty of spice from new oak; the palate is surprisingly fine and restrained, with weight and complexity building toward the back of the palate; the stamp of winemaking lies heavily on the wine at this point in time. The 2006 Petaluma Tiers Chardonnay has the full, ripe, white peach aroma of the Tiers Vineyard. Almond and cinnamon complement the peach fruit and the savoury finish which is typical of the vineyard is balanced with sweet fruit and the lovely long nutty finish.
