"Super-restrained and fine aromas with dried lime peel, savoury fragrance and an overall impression of a clear, assertive style – this is all about purity and precision. The palate is a neatly shaped lime-flavoured lozenge of riesling fruit; very clean, convincing and nicely balanced from start to finish." Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010, Nick Stock (Australia, New Zealand)
"... showing fragrant but fine passionfruit and floral characters on the nose. The palate has more weight than foreshadowed by the delicate bouquet but is nonetheless clean and slatey with tangy citrus notes and racy acidity. A terrific wine for fans of Clare Valley riesling." Daily Telegraph, Jeff Collerson (Australia) Nov 09
5 Stars "One of the great Australian rieslings... the 2009 is stunning. Delicate, but with plenty of power on the palate and delicious lime and lemon fruits, this is one wine I could drink all summer..." Canberra Times, Fergus McGhie (Australia), Nov 09
Winery Tasting Notes
The 2009 Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling is from an almost perfect growing season in Clare. Lovely bright floral aromas of lemon blossom and passionfruit are backed up on the palate by pristine intense lemon-lime, with some crunch apple thrown in. Slatey minerality, a hallmark of the Hanlin Hill Vineyard since our first vintage in 1979, combines with high natural acidity to produce a wine that is very drinkable in its youth, but has all the hallmarks of a great, long-lived Clare Valley Riesling. The 2009 Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling ranks alongside the truly great vintages of 1980, 1990 and 2002.
