Winery Tasting Notes

Palate

The 2010 Bridgewater Mill Sauvignon Blanc displays wonderful fruit intensity, with fresh exotic fruits, a lovely faint herbal edge and delicate, racy acidity.

Tropical fruits combined with lovely texture and crisp mineral dryness signal the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc as a lovely drink-now wine, showing the regional traits that Adelaide Hills wines are becoming renowned for.

Vintage Condition

The 2010 vintage in the cool climate Adelaide Hills was again wonderful. Excellent winter rain in 2009 and a warm, wet spring set the vineyards up beautifully. The whole season moved along a little earlier than normal.

Winemaking Notes

The pristine fruit was delivered from the Deanery Vineyard near Balhannah, and the Cobbs Hill Vineyard on the edge of Lenswood, to the nearby Petaluma winery in the Piccadilly Valley between the 3rd and the 9th March.

Various parcels were fermented with a number of selected yeast strains including some wild yeast. The lees was stirred in tank upon completion of fermentation. A small portion (5%) was fermented in French oak barriques.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The sweeping and curving Adelaide Hills in South Australia are home to the cool fresh vineyards that create the Bridgewater Mill wines. Grown on vines up to 25 years old and at a cool 300-450 metres high, Bridgewater Mill wines are finely drawn with taut structures, pure fruit and crisp clean flavours.

The dramatic wine labels originate from a single artwork inspired by the sweeping horizon line of the definitive Adelaide Hills landscape. At the very heart of the Adelaide Hills lies Petaluma’s Cellar Door, the heritage listed Bridgewater Mill, est. 1860.
