The Barossa has developed a reputation for Shiraz with intense fruit characters and rich concentrated palates. Gold Label balances these flavours with elegant French oak to produce a refined, textural Shiraz with bright, fragrant fruit.

Shiraz from the Barossa is selected for its intense aromas of blueberries, Satsuma plums and highlights of star anise, spice and chicory root. The palate is rich yet elegant, with vibrant purity of fruit and a supple, smooth and silky texture. Voluptuous fruit and subtle spicy oak are supported by a backbone of fine, structural tannin and a long, seamless finish.

An elongated gold label on a cabernet-shaped bottled as opposed to the Burgundy shape of the Adelaide Hills version is partly explained by the fact that the back label has both English and French versions of the consumer information. It is distinctly richer and fuller-bodied than its Adelaide Hills sibling, blackberry and licorice fruit backed by more assertive oak and stronger tannins. Needs, and will repay, cellaring. Winery Tasting Notes


Deep crimson red with purple highlights.


Intense aromas of blueberries, blackberries and blood- plums are layered with underlying dark chocolate, freshly ground coffee and roasted chicory, with a slight perfumed lift and fragrant star anise spice.


Richly textured, round and plush with a full, yet elegant palate of bright, fleshy blood-plum and juicy berry flavours. Subtle French oak supports a fine acid structure and long silky tannins, resulting in a harmonious, mouth-watering palate with a long, seamless finish.

Food Matching

Great with roast beef with caramelised onion marmalade, sizzling Mongolian lamb or seared kangaroo fillet with beetroot relish.


Enjoyable on release or will develop complex, integrated flavours with six to eight years careful cellaring.

Wolf Blass Wines has grown from a humble tin shed to become one of the world's most successful and awarded wineries.

Wolf Blass was created in 1973 when Wolf started his own business, purchasing a 2.5 acre land holding with an old army shed outside Nuriootpa, at the northern end of the Barossa Valley.

In researching the name Bilyara, Wolf learned it was the Aboriginal name for "Eaglehawk" and given the eagle was also the national emblem of Germany, he decided his wines would carry the Eagle - a legacy that continues today and into the future.

Wolf Blass Wines won three consecutive Jimmy Watson Trophies with Black Label, generating substantial publicity and hype. In 1999, Wolf Blass Black Label made history, becoming the only wine to win the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy an unprecedented four times.

From this time onwards, growth has been impressive and inspiring with Wolf Blass winning a grand total of more than 3,000 awards at national and international wine shows, including most recently, International Red Winemaker of the Year at the 2008 International Wine Challenge in London.
