3 ½ Stars “Great nose – smells like a mix of plum pudding and roast meats…fleshy on the palate. Still a youth.” Winestate (Australia), April 2009
94 Points “Medium to full bodied; very good structure, texture and balance; harmonious black fruits woven through quality oak and fine but ripe and positive tannins.” James Halliday Wine Companion 2009, James Halliday (Australia), July 08
Winery Tasting Notes
Taltarni first produced the Pyrenees Shiraz in 1977. Taltarni’s Pyrenees Shiraz is an exquisite wine crafted using Taltarni’s finest winemaking methods. Small wine parcels are cool fermented to retain fresh fruit characters, with the wine undergoing extended skin contact to enhance the complexity of the wine and soften tannins. 10% of the wine undergoes end of ferment in barrel integrating subtle oak, cedar and spice characteristics. The wine then matures about 18 months in 60% new oak, mainly French barriques with about 10% in American oak.
A vibrant magenta red colour showing youthfulness whilst sophisticated on the nose with concentrated aromas of blueberries and mocha. Very appealing to drink now but built to cellar with confidence for at least ten years.
