Overview

Appellation: Monthelie 1per Cru Sur la Velle A. C., Burgundy, France

An attractive and expressive nose of ripe berries and spice flows into a similarly ripe and medium-full bodied palate with soft acidity. A distinct savoury complexity adds a level of quality and interest rare at this level, a change of pace from the Pinot Noir of the Côtes de Nuits.

Winery Tasting Notes

Grape Varietal

100% Pinot Noir.

Aroma/Palate

An attractive and expressive nose of ripe berries and spice flows into a similarly ripe and medium-full bodied palate with soft acidity. A distinct savoury complexity adds a level of quality and interest rare at this level, a change of pace from the Pinot Noir of the Côtes de Nuits.

Winemaking Note

Organically grown, hand harvested and rigorously sorted before a full de-stemming. Fermentation in small open fermenters with minimal sulphur cover and limited hand plunging is finished in vat. The wine is matured in one and two year old barriques before bottling without fining or filtration.

Winemaking Note

A difficult vintage that rewarded the well prepared, diligent and brave vigneron. An incredibly warm April was negated by a shockingly cold and wet summer. Consistent dry and windy conditions in late August saved the vintage. The long wait to harvest was nerve wracking but ultimately worthwhile. The wines are charming and beautifully balanced with attractive up front fruit.
