Bodegas Valtravieso was founded in 1985 with the first vintage in 1994. The Bodegas Valtravieso estate is situated at the highest altitude of any winery in Ribera del Duero at 915m. The Bodegas Valtravieso wines are all estate grown, from 73 hectares of vineyards directly surrounding the winery. The estate is broken into four distinct vineyards, although all share very rocky, limestone rich soils and high altitude. The vines are a combination of low trellis and bush.

Winery Tasting Notes
A luscious and sensual wine from Spain’s Ribera del Duero, the Valtravieso Crianza presents rich aromas of blackberry and currants with fine spices and hints of oak.
Similar fruit flavours show through on the rich and attractive palate with intricacy given by gamey meat edges, hint of raisin, and fine oak tannins from 12 months maturation in French barriques. The small element of Cabernet Sauvignon lifts the Tempranillo, filling the middle palate and adding complexity. The wine is well balanced with a fine acid line and a long and lingering finish.
Bodegas Valtravieso has a modern and fruit focussed philosophy. Fermentation begins in stainless steel before transferring to one to three year old French Barriques. The use of exclusively French oak is rare in Spain. Oak ageing is for a minimum of 12 months in French oak casks from the forests of Allier, Nevers and Bosgues before at least one years bottle maturation.
