Winery Tasting Notes

Grape Varietals

Merlot, Cabernet Franc.

Wine Background

The Malet Roquefort family, living for 4 centuries in Saint-Emilion, is acknowledged as the most ancient family of the area, the Château itself

dates to the 11th Century. Located just south of St. Emilion, Château La Gaffelière remains under the watchful eye of Comte Léo de Malet-

Roquefort.

Vintage Condition

The 2000 vintage was a story in two parts, after a warm and wet winter brought on the worst mildew attack in over 100 years. July continued the trend, being overcast and cool before a complete turnaround. There was barely a cloud in the sky during the long, dry days of August, September and early October, drying out the vineyards and ensuring excellent ripeness and grape sugar levels.

Winemaking Note

The fruit is harvested by hand, plot by plot before meticulous sorting and full de-stalking. A cold maceration is following by a cool fermentation and gentle cap punching, finishing in stainless steel. Maturation is in new French Oak.
