A lifted and attractive nose, very modern in style and unforced, with red berry aromas met by savoury spice.

The palate is likewise fruit focussed with vibrant and supple red and black berries fruit surrounded by soft savoury spice and fine tannins.

Winemaking Note

Syrah and Viognier from a single vineyard were harvested together and co-fermented in small open topped fermenters. Following fermentation the wine was transferred to stainless steel tanks for maturation on lees before bottling without fining or filtration.

Wine Background

Le Cavalier Seul (The Lone Rider), a French expression meaning ‘to go it alone’, is a perfect encapsulation of Michel Tardieu’s ambition – to walk a different path in the South Rhone, creating varietally expressive wines from Syrah.

Winery Profile

VINEYARDS

40 year old vineyards on chalky / clay soils around the villages of Cairanne, Rasteau and Pal de Dieu.

Le Cavalier Seul follows Michel’s philosophy of natural fermentation, minimal intervention and low sulphur addition before hand bottling without fining or filtration. Fruit expressiveness is key with minimal or no oak maturation.
