Overview

Appellation: Chateauneuf-du-Pape A.C., Southern Rhone, France.

Crammed with a massive core of blueberry compote, braised fig and mulled blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavors, all wound up with graphite tannins and backed by a strong, iron-filled spine. This has serious depth and drive, with gorgeous mocha and espresso aromatics flittering throughout.

Winemaker's Comment

The tannins are of a rare power. They give this wine an oversize form. Tastes like a liquor in the mouth, with a remarkably velvety texture. No doubt, this Capital Wine will spoil the amateurs of demonstrative wines!

Winemaking Note

Wet and challenging conditions led up to the end of spring before a remarkably dry summer. Formidable sunshine and a sustained wind cleansed the Vineyards before harvest began an exceptionally long 120 days after flowering. The wines shows a subtle balance between fruit, crispness, and finesse of the tannins providing the indication of a keeping vintage. The aromatic profiles are complex, powerful, without a hint of over ripeness. Less imposing than in 2005, but amply sufficient, the most striking feature of 2007 is the purity of perfect fruit. To conclude, I see 2007 as one of these Great Vintages which call for a careful élevage: in my view, 2007 is in line with 1998, 2001, and 2005.
