Expert Reviews

The 2004 Seleccion de Anada is Albarino aged sur lie for three years. Light gold-colored, it delivers a lovely honey, mineral, and lemon-scented nose leading to a creamy-textured, ripe, surprisingly fresh wine with superb length. Drink this high-class Albarino over the next 2-3 years.

Rating 92 - Jay Miller, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate#183 (JUN/2009)

Five year old Spanish albarino – admittedly I wasn’t falling over myself to try it. But boy is it a beautiful wine. A wine that would have started out fresh – no oak maturation, no malolactic fermentation – and has now added a wealth of aged personality to the show. It spent 34 months in stainless steel prior to bottling. As in, nearly three years … in stainless steel. Forgive me, but that isn’t a combination of words you hear too often.

Still racy and fresh, characters of brine, honeysuckle, apple and rose keeping you captivated throughout. Extreme length. Clear sense of precision. Textured, toasty and terrific.

Winery Tasting Notes

Grape Variety

100% Albarino.

Colour

Straw yellow in colour with lively and bright greenish reflections.

Aroma

Intense, complex in nose in which both primary and tertiary aromas show through: varietal highlights of ripe apple and stone fruit, such as peach and medlar fruit –all combined with elegant mineral notes, well integrated into the whole.

Palate

Great character, firmness and depth come through on the palate with enormous volume in the attack which shows fat and unctuousness with a good balance between acidity and varietal fruit. Great bottle-ageing potential.

Winemaking Note

Harvested in small batches and transferred directly to the winery. Utmost effort to prevent oxygen ingress throughout entire winemaking process. Completely de-stemmed and given a long, cool fermentation. Malo-lactic fermentation is prevented and the wine is matured on lees for 34 months in stainless steel vats without the influence of oak.

Cellaring Potential

5 years.

Winery Profile

We work to create a white wine of great character; both long and pleasant on the palate and long-ageing in bottle.

Since the very beginning, our aim at Pazo de señorans has been clear and simple: transform the fruit given to us by Mother Nature into a varietal wine of great character. The Albariño grape variety brings aroma, structure and acidity, which form the basis of our two brands, Pazo señorans and Pazo señorans Selección de Añada.

We work our vines with great care and monitor closely those from which we buy-in our grapes to be sure that when the grapes are picked they are perfectly ripe and healthy.
