The History
Lindeman's wines contain the spirit and passion of its founder, Dr. Henry J Lindeman, whose philosophy was to craft wines for everyday enjoyment.
In 1843, Dr. Lindeman had planted his first vineyard on his 330-acre property 'Cawarra' in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. One hundred years after, the Lindeman's Wine Company became a public listed company.
By cellaring wines and not releasing them for sale until they had properly matured, Dr. Lindeman earned a reputation for producing wine of the highest quality. In 1973, the Lindeman's Winery at Karadoc was built to cater for the increasing consumer demand for Lindeman's wines around the world.
The Vineyards
The winemaking team of nine is spread across Victoria and South Australia. Wayne Falkenberg and his team at the Lindeman's Karadoc Winery produce wines for the Cawarra, Bin Series and Premier Selection labels, whilst the team based in the Coonawarra produce the Reserve and Coonawarra Trio wines.
Wayne Falkenberg
It was an early interest in biochemistry and some connections in the winemaking industry that encouraged Wayne to enter the field of Winemaking. He was born and raised in the Barossa Valley of South Australia, where his parents grew grapes for a number of wineries in the region. In 1974, Wayne entered Roseworthy Agricultural College and completed his Diploma in Oenology in 1976. Later that same year, Wayne joined LINDEMANS® as an Assistant Winemaker, at the Karadoc winery in northwestern Victoria.
Today Wayne is the Winemaker Manager, leading a team of eight winemakers and responsible for many commercial wines. The focus is on producing consistently great tasting wines for everyday enjoyment. The wines are fresh, soft, easy drinking and very affordable, value for money wines.
Wayne says "Commercial wines are harder to make than most wines because you have to be able to reliably produce a wine that is instantly recognisable year in year out, but there is no way Mother Nature gives you the same ingredients every year. Sourcing fruit from a wide area allows the freedom of blending to produce wines of consistency."
