Approximately 70% of the fruit for this wine was sourced from the great old vines grown at historic Quelltaler. These old vines were grown on red loam over limestone and in some patches, bluestone. The vines were virtually dry grown and therefore produced small crops which could reach full maturity. The balance of the fruit was purchased from selected Clare Valley growers.
Annie Wayman
Annie Wayman was a legend in the Clare Valley. She could always be relied upon to bring along sandwiches and a warm drink to harvesters and pruners in the local vineyards.
One fateful day, her horse and cart got bogged next to one of the area's best vineyards, thus Annie's Lane was born.
Wines from this and surrounding vineyards have appeared under the Annie's Lane label since 1996 and have become a huge hit with consumers and critics.

Winemaking
The wine was fermented in small 4 tonne open fermenters using heading down boards for a period of 14 days. After basket-pressing the wine was run off into new (15%) and seasoned (85%), American and French oak hogsheads for 18 months.

A char-grilled eye fillet with a red wine and pepper glaze would take some beating.
The renowned Clare Valley is the home of Annie's Lane.
Annie's Lane wines were launched in 1996, named after a real place and a real person.
Anne's Lane was so-named at the turn of the 20th century when Annie Wayman's horse and cart got bogged along the boundary of a Clare Valley vineyard, as she delivered lunch and warm drinks to pruners in the vineyard. So, it seemed only reasonable that Annie, a stalwart of Clare Valley folklore, should be remembered for her inimitable services to the vineyard workers of the region.
The home of Annie's Lane is the heritage listed Quelltaler winery at the heart of Watervale, in the Clare Valley's south. Quelltaler is the regions oldest and most important wineries, dating back to 1863.
Annie's Lane is now one of the finest wineries in Australia's renowned Clare Valley and is known for crafting a range of reputable wines from some of the oldest vines in the region.
The Annie's Lane wines rely on regional and varietal expression; encompassing a diversity of wines from elegant fresh white to rich, fruit-flavoured reds. Annie's Lane features a core Clare Valley range of wines as well as a limited release range of ultra-premium wines released under the Copper Trail label.
The most successful of all the wines has been the super-premium Copper Trail Shiraz - awarded Visy's Great Australian Shiraz Challenge and overall category winner for best Shiraz in Winestate Magazine's World's Greatest Shiraz Challenge for the Copper Trail Shiraz 2005.
