Vintage Conditions
The fruit for this wine was sourced from vineyards in South Eastern Australia. The 2008 vintage was warm to hot, with a pro-longed heatwave in mid-March. However, grapes picked before the elevated temperatures were delivered to the winery in pristine condition, resulting in good varietal definition and balanced flavours.
In 1971 Australia’s most successful and prestigious sparkling wine brand was established by Ballarat businessman Ian Home.
The name Yellowglen was given to the winery after a gold mine was discovered in the middle of what are now pinot noir vineyards.
The Yellowglen vineyard at Smythesdale was originally planted with red grape varieties destined for table wine. It soon became clear that this cool climate area would be far better suited to the production of world class sparkling wine. Sparkling wine was made for the first time at Yellowglen. In 1989 the first Yellowglen Vintage wine was released. It was made from the 1987 vintage and has gained a reputation for being one of Australia’s finest single vintage sparkling wines. In 1996 Yellowglen Yellow Sparkling was successfully launched, becoming an instant success.
Two Yellowglen classics were launched in 2005: Vintage Bella and Vintage Perle. Immediate success greeted Vintage Bella, whilst Vintage Perle remains an outstanding example of premium Australian Sparkling. Since launch, Perle has won multiple and consecutive awards, including eight golds at various prestigious wine shows nationally, and the coveted Thorp Trophy at the 2008 Macquarie Bank Sydney Royal Wine Show.
Yellowglen reaffirmed its position as a leader in sparkling with the 2007 launch of two exciting innovations: Jewel Yellow and Jewel Pink, Australia’s first ever dedicated lower calorie, lower alcohol sparkling wines.
