- SA - Coonawarra
- South Australia
Open-fermented for 10 days, matured for 16 months in new French and American oak. Speaks with the utmost clarity of its place of origin, with that bay leaf/earth/mint undertone to strong cassis fruit, which is by no means a fault; the oak, too, has been well handled, and doesn't challenge the fruit. Rating 94 - Drink by 2027, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (FEB/2015).
Winery Tasting Notes
Intense deep purple with crimson tints.
A beautifully complex wine with upfront aromas of red berry and blackberry balanced by pepper and herbaceous notes.
The aromas flow through to the palate with rich dark berry and brooding stone fruit notes. Maturation in oak gives some savoury characters, a slight earthiness and soft, drying tannins which all meld together to form a long, lingering sensation.
A balanced and approachable wine now or cellar for the next 5-10 years.
Best paired with rare fillet of beef, porcini mushrooms and sauteed spinach.
