This full bodied and elegant wine is a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon enhanced with a small percentage of classic varietals. Following fermentation and extended maceration, the wine has been matured in new and old French oak barriques, producing a complex blend of Margaret River fruit characters including cassis, eucalypt, capsicum, mulberry and plum with secondary notes of chocolate, tobacco and cedar.

Perhaps hypocritically, this wine is also very varietal and regional, yet I like it much more than the 2007 Cabernet Merlot. I think elegance is a defining character of 2008 Margaret River reds. The quality of the grapes really shines through here.
Aromas of red fruits and eucalyptus, with mulberries and chocolate on the palate. Soft, clean and approachable. It’s definitely got all the good genes of its father The Scholar, and at a third of the price, it’s hard to go past.

Winery Tasting Notes
Mulberry, cassis and capsicum overtones
Mulberries, cassis and plum with some secondary chocolate tones.
Hearty beef casserole, beef stroganoff, or dukkah-crusted lamb cutlets. Mature hard cheeses such as cheddar, parmesan or romano.
While delicious to drink young for its primary fruit characters, this wine will gain in complexity with cellaring up to 5 - 10 years.
