Making great wine requires faith and patience. Faith in the abilities of loyal growers, in those that make the wine, and in the fruit itself. It requires patience in order to understand vineyards over a number of vintages and a willingness to accept you don’t always get it right. It also takes patience to watch a wine that you know you can sell tomorrow, sit in an oak barrel for two years. The Reward pays homage to all those who work with St Hallett and is a reward for their faith and patience in our pursuit of making great wine.

Winery Tasting Notes

A "reward" for the faith and patience needed to make great wine.


This medium bodied, classic Cabernet shows vibrant, varietal Cabernet characters with blackcurrant and blackberry leaf in the bouquet.


The palate has hints of cassis adding to the berry characters and nuances of choc-mint. There is classic Cabernet structure with chalky and firm tannins and minerality supporting the flavours for a long finish.

Food Matching

A medium-bodied Cabernet that will marry excellently with a char-grilled steak. If hankering for something different, enjoy this with slow cooked pulled pork or lamb shanks. Roasted pumpkin and mushroom pie or a medium spicy Indian curry will do very well too. Hard, bitey cheese are best with The Reward.


Enjoy this classic Barossa Cabernet now, but watch it develop further over the next ten years. Decanting for two hours prior to serving is recommended.
