We are a proud family of winemakers - with a history which dates back over one hundred and thirty years. Our family ties go deep and we always stand together with an unconditional dedication and commitment that's seen us through thick and thin, good times and bad.
We're proud to note that no other Australian winemaker has achieved quite the accolades we have. Year after year we produce wines of such quality, depth and flavour that we've become a fundamental part of Australia's winemaking achievement and are today known as Australia's Most Awarded Winery.
Success like ours, however, does not come overnight. Rather it takes lifetimes of dedication, perseverance, inspiration, innovation and a passion to deliver the best.
The art of winemaking is as much in our blood as the desire to bring only the very best to market. We make wine to be enjoyed by all and we are proud that the fruits of our labour are there for all to savour.
For a real perspective on how strong our heritage of quality wines is, just ask any of the consumers around the world who have enjoyed our wines since we began in 1877.
McWilliam's is sold in over 20 countries around the world, while at home, McWilliam's is Australia's number 5 table wine brand by volume.
Winemaker Jim Brayne
Jim Brayne joined McWilliam's Wines as a cellar hand in 1973 and was appointed Chief Winemaker in 1986; and Production Director and an Associate Director in 2003. He is based at McWilliam's Wines winemaking headquarters at our Hanwood Winery, near Griffith in New South Wales.
In his current position, Jim oversees the creation and style - from vineyards to final blending - of all wines produced in the McWilliam's Wines award-winning portfolio of brands.
Jim is proud of his hands on training, which he believes has been a successful combination of "apprenticeship" and "academic".
In February 2004, Jim's achievements and contribution to the Australian wine industry were recognised when he was awarded the prestigious 2004 Graham Gregory Trophy, by the NSW Department of Agriculture. He was also a finalist in the Qantas/Wine Magazine Winemaker of the Year award in 2000 and 2002.
Jim has also judged at Australian wine shows - including Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Canberra, as well as various regional shows - since 1983. He has also been a guest judge at the New Zealand Wine Show.
